Tallgrass Country Club has a welcoming, friendly demeanor with a variety of affordable membership options making it one of the best private club values in Wichita. The 18-hole championship course was built in 1981 by course architect Arthur Hills and is one of the most challenging courses in Kansas with prairie grass hazards and rough. Lush fairways meander through northeast Wichita neighborhoods creating an interesting course layout.

The outstanding golf course at Tallgrass is complimented by an outdoor swimming pool, full dining and banquet facilities, as well as a full schedule of tournaments and social activities. Golf memberships, dining memberships and social memberships create numerous options for families and individuals choosing to make Tallgrass Country Club their home.

According to General Manager, Jeff Schwab the heart and soul of the Club are the members. “The factor that elevates Tallgrass Country Club a step above the rest is the loyalty of our members and the dedication of our staff,” Jeff describes with immense pride. His career with Tallgrass began 17 years ago as an employee on the maintenance crew. Jeff has served in nearly every capacity at the Club and he sets the tone for a true culture of excellence. He knows the Club members by name and creates camaraderie among the employees. His endearing personality has made Jeff many friends at Tallgrass Country Club.

Head Golf Professional, Jim Richmond is passionate about making golf enjoyable and accessible to every member of the Club. He takes special interest in developing the avid and aspiring golfers’ confidence and respect for the game. Jim shares that his favorite hole on the course is number eight, a par four that is immediately challenging off of the tee. With a glimmer in his eye, he continues to describe the creek in front of the green that makes the second shot about distance control. Jim was formerly the Golf Coach at Wichita State University and brings expertise from courses throughout Kansas and Oklahoma to the Pro Shop at Tallgrass Country Club.

Ken Pung is the original and only Golf Course Superintendent at Tallgrass Country Club. He literally knows every blade of grass on the course because he planted them by seed 31 years ago. Ken is quick to credit the exceptional condition of the course to his staff’s dedication. Even through last summer’s record breaking heat the Tallgrass course did not suffer the damage that other area facilities experienced. As Ken surveys the course at 5:00AM each morning he is proud of the grounds he has nurtured into one of Wichita’s best and well-maintained golf courses.

Award winning chef, Ben George is the most recent member of the foursome to join Tallgrass Country Club. As Food and Beverage Director and Executive Chef, Ben has elevated the Tallgrass dining experience to a new level. He describes his favorite style of cuisine as Southwest-French Fusion. Club members are treated to enticing blends of flavors that Ben first introduced to Wichita foodies from his kitchen at The Anchor. Winner of the Iron Chef Wichita Award in 2010, Ben’s culinary creations are highlighted within the well rounded banquet and dinner menus. Tallgrass Country Club’s banquet facilities are available for non-members and the business community to rent for events of any size.

These four gentlemen — The Boys of Tallgrass — embody tradition, respect and love for the sport of golf. Their impact on the Club’s success is immeasurable. Tallgrass Country Club is a place for families to gather for relaxation and celebration. It is home to many Wichita business leaders. Members benefit from lifelong friendships formed within the Tallgrass community and graciously open the door to welcome new friends.
