There's a chance to win a cool grand in the helicopter golf ball drop
Splurge! Magazine and the Air Capital Classic Golf Tournament are joining forces for the fourth annual Splurge! Tee-Off Party with proceeds benefiting the Randy and Suzy Storms Young Life Memorial Fund. As a prelude to Wichita’s long-running Web.com Tour event, Friday nights’ party promises to be more fun than a round of golf with your favorite foursome. Skirting the scenic 18th green, guests will enjoy slow smoked barbecue expertly crafted by Craig Burns of Security 1st Title Company, dessert from Sweetly Scrumptious Bakery and plentiful cocktails. Keeping with the golf theme, a helicopter hovering over the green will drop golf balls and one lucky person whose ball lands closest to the pin will win a $1,000 prize sponsored by the Douglass Wealth Management Team.
Amidst the pre-tournament revelry, the true purpose of the Splurge! Tee- Off Party is philanthropic. Proceeds will be donated to Young Life Wichita in honor of Randy Storms who was a 25- year volunteer with the organization. A one-vehicle accident in February, 2013 claimed the lives of Randy and his wife Suzy Storms. The loss felt by the Wichita community is profound. Countless residents were blessed by sharing the gentle grace of God through the Storms’ love, compassion and friendship.

Matt Shepherd, Area Director of Young Life Wichita describes Randy Storms’ passion and natural ability to create meaningful relationships with Wichita area teens. “Randy was known for sitting down with people, one-on-one,” explained Shepherd. “He made the most impact over a cup of coffee or sharing ice-cream.” Young Life doesn’t prescribe to a regimented program. It starts with adult leaders and volunteers who connect with area teens on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship. These relationships do not happen overnight - they take time, patience, trust and consistency.
The Storms’ Memorial Fund will directly support the outreach or “contact work” on which Young Life’s mission is based. “Every single penny will go into the hands of our volunteer leaders to help them reach all the kids in Wichita who need us,” Shepherd said. In the spirit of Storms’ ministry - impacting the lives of Wichita youth, one ice-cream cone at a time.
The Air Capital Classic has a tradition of supporting Wichita non-profits. In 2012, over $200,000 was donated to 41 different charities. “We work hard for twelve months to put on a high quality and meaningful event that our community can be proud of,” said Roy Turner, Tournament Director. Golfers on the tour enjoy playing in Wichita because of the enthusiastic fans and the superb course conditions at Crestview Country Club.
Tee-Off Party tickets include entertainment, dinner, dessert, an open bar and grant guests general admission to the tournament. Attendance at the Tee-Off Party is limited to 400 guests, so advance reservations are highly recommended. The 2013 Air Capital Classic will be played June 13-16 at Crestview Country Club with a purse of $650,000. Last year’s event was won by Casey Wittenberg who went on to become the Web.com Tour’s leading money-winner.
