Homes for the holidays

These Wichitans sure know how to deck the halls

Written by Laura Roddy

As Perry Como told us, there’s no place like home for the holidays. SPLURGE! found some of best-decorated homes in the Wichita area, where no detail is too small. Admire their Christmas cheer and get inspiration to spruce up your own spruce – as well as your mantel and dining table. René West, owner of A'llure Interior Design, recommends having a theme, although it can be a different one for each room or each tree. For instance, try doing a tree all in one color or incorporate burlap and raffia. Another idea for updating old ornaments is to spray them with flocking and glitter. Hot colors for this Christmas include aqua and red; turquoise and purple; black and white; and lime, fuchsia and aqua.

Ken and Tena Stoppel include peacock accessories in several places.

The Stoppels, who live in College Hill, add Christmas elegance inside and out.

Denise Bean loves the traditional look for her home in West Wichita’s Fox Ridge Estates. She relies on decorator
Sherry Berger to pull the look together
and advise Bean on a few new additions each year.

The Harrises add a touch of whimsy outside with life-size Nutcrackers.

Every surface is fair game for Christmas at the home of Larry and René West in Andover’s Rolling Acres. A Christmas village never goes out of style.

West puts up nine trees each holiday season. She keeps all her holiday decor in a 1,000-square-foot storage room when not in use – but she would keep it out all year if her husband would go for it.
