Harmonious holiday decor

To match your style

What a wonderful time of year! This month families are so busy, between parties, school musicals and family get-togethers. When it comes to this time of the year you don’t really need to go over the top to get your home ready for the holidays. If you’re still lagging behind on your holiday decorating, don’t fret! Chances are you may only need a few key pieces to take your home from everyday to fabulously festive.

When I decorate my clients’ homes and businesses I want it to be a reflection of their style, just as I do for their everyday living. Instead of trying to compete with the color scheme, I choose colors that complement their style. If their home is light and airy then I will pick up on colors to enhance their existing furnishings.

Such is the case for one of my dear clients who gave me the privilege of setting up her Christmas for the past few years. Her dining room is gorgeous so I didn’t want to take away from the beautiful light stone or the rich, warm and rustic table with the geometric patterned window panels. What I integrated into her dining table was simple, yet sophisticated: glass vases with shiny and sparkly Christmas ornaments and a platter filled with more ornaments nestled amidst sprigs of greenery. Then on the sideboard the right amount of silvery sprigs are tucked in amongst a bottle of wine and platter of goblets. All of these items work well with the blue colors in her china, drinkware and accessories.

This harmonious color scheme allows your eye to take in the beauty of the room without competing holiday elements. If I had added traditional red to the mix it would have seemed disconnected.

This same concept applies to any style. When another wonderful client of mine invited me to decorate his offices for everyday, then fall and Christmas, I introduced pieces that enhanced the beauty of the space. I exchanged the arrangement on the counter for branches, greenery, and red florals and berries, in a beautiful aged pot with evergreen sprigs. On the sideboard, two large metal lanterns and a pair of candleholders make a wonderful setting for a gorgeous garland winding through the accessories, accented with red ribbon and twinkle lights. Throughout the office I used this same color scheme to amplify the holiday cheer.

This year in the store I have vignettes set up with holiday styles — traditional, old world, Spanish casita and transitional, just to name a few. During your holiday shopping stop by, grab a cup of coffee and spend a few relaxing moments with us. Get some ideas, pick up some gifts and buy yourself a little something to celebrate. Then as you gather with friends and family, think about your goals for the coming year. What can Design Source Interiors do to help make your life more comfortable and functional?

My team and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I am blessed to be able to serve my awesome clients. I look forward to carrying on the tradition of making their lives a little better and much easier.
