The Greens at Terradyne hits all the right marks

Written by Kim Dugger Attwater

You don’t have to be a golfer to enjoy The Greens at Terradyne Country Club. The Greens is the name of the new restaurant operating inside the country club. It opened to the public earlier this year and no club membership is required to partake of the great food and drink served there.

We visited on a chilly day in February, which made the huge fireplace inside all the more wonderful. The restaurant also features a spacious patio overlooking the golf course, which I look forward to visiting when temperatures warm up a bit. Views of the championship golf course and the clubhouse itself, known locally as “the castle on the hill,” are part of the dining experience.

We ordered several dishes. The grilled, bone-in pork chops may have been the best I’ve ever tasted. They’re served with mashed potatoes, fried Brussels sprouts and a delicious housemade jalapeño jam.

Just as good were the chicken nachos, which feature chips made in-house topped with queso, chipotle chicken, sour cream, pico de gallo and the club’s own salsa.

Talking to Erin McRae, the club’s food and beverage director, we learned that the brisket sandwich is actually the top seller. It’s made up of smoked and coffee-rubbed beef brisket, served on a brioche bun and topped with a fried egg, bacon, pickled red onion, smoked gouda cheese and barbecue sauce. That’s definitely something I’ll try next time.

The diverse menu features an array of appetizers, steaks, seafood, sandwiches, pasta, salads and desserts, ranging from a charcuterie board appy to a 14-ounce rib-eye topped with caramelized shallot butter. There’s something for just about every age and taste. Indeed, everything we saw and smelled coming out of the kitchen during our visit made it a cinch that we’ll be back.

Under McRae, a veteran of some of the city’s finest restaurants, the Greens’ staff does a great job of making diners feel welcome. There’s a gorgeous bar across the hall from the main dining room that’s perfect for hanging out (there’s a happy hour 3-6 p.m., Tuesday-Friday), plus private dining rooms are available as well. Whether your visit is for a casual family dinner, dress-up date, group affair or business lunch, the Greens is sure to satisfy.
