Spring must-haves

8 essentials for your closet this spring

Written by Kelsey Ralston

It’s finally time to put away the bulky sweaters and winter boots we love oh-so-much to make room for your spring attire. These pieces from local boutiques deserve space in your closet and budget.

1. Hair scarves entered the fashion scene last year, and they are back in full bloom this spring. This accessory can add a pop of color or tie an outfit together with ease.

2. As the sun makes more appearances this spring, you’ll need a trusty pair of sunglasses (or two!). While funky shapes and sizes may be trendy, you can’t go wrong with one that coordinates with just about everything.

3. Platform sandals (or flatforms) will dominate the shoe game this spring — which is especially great for those who like a little extra height while maintaining comfort. They look stylish with dresses, jeans or anything your heart desires.

4. Florals are nothing new this year, but you may see the pattern incorporated in unique ways — with jumpsuits, midi dresses, shoes, swimsuits and hats all donning the feminine blooms. We love traditional florals, but the bigger, the better this season.

5. Jean shorts are a staple of every spring wardrobe. Vintage-looking and distressed denim is especially on trend.

6. The grays of winter are replaced by bold and bright spring colors. Popular hues include orange, green, purple, turquoise and red — but don’t worry, you don’t have to pick just one!

7. Don’t stow your favorite animal print or snakeskin pieces away just yet — the trend has roared its way into spring. And if you didn’t add any to your wardrobe last fall, now is the perfect time.

8. Sporting the ICT flag is always in style. Wear this headband to complete your athleisure look or when going for a run in the fresh spring air.
