Thanks to Stephanie Merritt “food rescuers” — volunteers who pick up donated food and drive it to nonprofit organizations — are zipping across the city to feed hungry Wichitans. With the help of an sophisticated app, Merritt, founder of ICT Food Rescue, is able to connect great Wichita eateries with amazing charities, turning leftover food into precious meals.


‘There’s the TikTok guy!’

This is something Preven Christon hears occasionally when he’s out and about, usually followed up by a selfie request. What started as a joke turned into 6 million total likes on the social media platform. Another popular guy is Army veteran Carl Brandt, aka “The Ice Cream Man.” Brandt had the idea to renovate a vintage cart and give away 5-cent ice cream cones, in exchange for donations to the Kansas Honor Flight organization.
