Red, White and BOOM!

Fireworks fans, history buffs, aircraft aficionados and more will find plenty of fun and festive ways to celebrate the Fourth of July this year. Many events that were canceled in the past are firing up again, and there are a wealth of options to choose from. This holiday is a fantastic opportunity to take a break from the busyness of summer and engage in a memorable evening with family and friends. 


Wind Surge and Fireworks

Is there a better celebration of America than baseball and fireworks? Be sure to catch the six-game series of Wichita Wind Surge vs. Northwest Arkansas Naturals, taking place from June 28 to July 3. According to VisitWichita.com, “Each game features promotions and highlights, including two separate post-game fireworks shows—one on Friday and another on Monday.” Find ticket and event info here milb.com/wichita. 


Old Cowtown Museum: Celebrate America

This annual event is set to take place on July 1. Celebrate America will feature all the old-timey favorites, including a wild-west gunfight, saloon girls, a magician, as well as plenty of games and family-friendly events. Red, White, and Broadway

Music Theatre Wichita is back with the popular “Red, White, and Broadway.” The production is “an outdoor extravaganza that will have you tapping your toes and singing along to Broadway tunes and patriotic songs” according to their website. This returning event will take place at Botanica from July 1–4, with a fireworks display during the evening performances. Tickets are available for purchase at mtwichita.org. 


Independence Day Commemoration 

This solemn tribute at Wichita Veterans Memorial Park is once more scheduled for July 4 as a commemoration of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. According to the park’s website, the commemoration will feature “a guest speaker, color guard, rifle salute, a bugler playing the National Anthem as well as ‘Taps’ to conclude the ceremony.” Admission is free to the public. Red, White and BOOM!

For a fun and free community event, be sure to check out “Red, White & BOOM!” at Riverfront Stadium. In addition to the fireworks scheduled for 9:40 p.m., there will be plenty of entertainment and food trucks along the Hyatt Lawn beginning at 6 p.m. Guests are free to bring a lawn chair or blanket to enjoy the event. Wichita Warbird Weekend

This exciting annual event, organized by B-29 Doc Hangar, Education and Visitors Center, is quickly becoming a crowd favorite. According to their website, this event runs from July 5 to 9, and “will feature vintage and historic warbirds and aircraft, including four airplanes that will have ride flight opportunities.” Admission is $10 per person or $20 per family. In addition to these fantastic Fourth of July themed events, be sure to take advantage of the long weekend with other exciting opportunities, including the Sunflower Program, the various waterparks and splash pads, nature parks and trails, and the Fountains at WaterWalk.
