Each of these lovely bodies of water offers the opportunity to get out of the city and “become one with nature,” even if that means cruising around on a boat! 


El Dorado State Park 

Considered one of the top state parks in the country, El Dorado State Park is the perfect place to spend the day swimming, fishing, camping, boating, paddle boarding, whatever you wish. The park is conveniently located three miles east of El Dorado and approximately 45 to 60 minutes from Wichita. A variety of hiking, biking and horse trails are also available throughout the park, and these feature stunning views of the natural and historical Kansas scenery. No wonder it’s a favorite of locals.


Santa Fe Lake

Located in Augusta, Kansas, just 10 to 20 minutes from Wichita, Santa Fe Lake is a great setting for year-round recreation, with boating, fishing, swimming, camping, picnicking, biking, hiking and more. Watson Park 

Located right here in Wichita, O.J. Watson Park is one of the hidden gems of ICT. Nestled in south Wichita at 3022 S. McLean Blvd., this underrated area offers a variety of amenities, including kayaking and pedal boats, campfire and picnic areas, sand volleyball, and many more family-friendly activities. Open year round with varying hours, this epic 119-acre site is one of the largest parks in the City of Wichita park system. Make sure to get your family out to this one-of-a-kind area.


Cheney Lake

Cheney Reservoir, located just 30 to 40 minutes west of Wichita, is a popular spot for all kinds of summer recreation, including swimming, boating, fishing, paddle boarding, and kayaking. This relaxing location boasts plenty of amenities, including nine modern cabins, which are available to rent year round. It is easy to forget your troubles when you are floating around on this lovely and secluded lake.
