CALLING ALL MAMAS! JUMPSTART YOUR WEIGHT LOSS

COACHING IS THE MISSING LINK

WRITTEN BY JULIE UNDERWOOD BURTON

It’s January, the time to start new resolutions, which often includes starting the post-holiday diet. Building a personal relationship with an experienced coach who can help educate and guide you might just be the key to your weight loss success this year.

After 10 years as a local family practice physician, Dr. Emily VinZant recently redefined her mission as a doctor by shifting her focus to help mothers, or “mamas” as she affectionately calls them, with personal weight challenges. Often referred to as “Dr. Mom,” she became a better resource to her clients by further studying the medical side of obesity and passing the boards to gain certification in obesity medicine. As a mom who also battled weight gain, she believes this new career focus is one of the most impactful decisions she has ever made, especially the decision to attend The Life Coach School as part of this journey, which awarded her an additional certification as a Life and Weight Loss Coach.

“The coaching side of weight loss programs is definitely the missing link,” stated VinZant. “I now help my clients understand how food is truly a cultural and familial decision.” She further explains, “The average American is overweight because of how we use food. It’s not just what we eat, it’s how we use and celebrate food. Through small group coaching, we work together to gain a new understanding and change the way we each see and use food throughout our day. I focus on coaching moms, because if we can change it for ourselves, we can help change it for the next generation too.”

VinZant believes the coaching is paramount as she teaches individuals how to create a flexible diet that works and helps them understand the importance of changing the relationships they have with different types of food including the mindless, habitual and emotional eating patterns many struggle with.

“We work on what we eat, when we eat, how much we eat to make it work and we tweak our approach every week to keep off our weight,” states VinZant. “There truly is no single best diet. The best diet is the one you can work into your life and that will work for you. For a mom, it must be simple, and it has to work for them,” she adds.

“Weight Loss for Modern American Moms” is a 9-month, virtual program which uses no supplements, medications or exercise prescriptions. Once enrolled, individuals can access all online coaching modules, videos, group support chats and coaching calls from any location.
