Design Source Interiors

At Design Source Interiors, led by designer Nahid Holmes, we like to ensure holiday décor is cohesive with the scale of the space and has a stunning, sophisticated look. A key to achieving a high-end holiday look is giving each area plenty of volume and fullness. This can be done by combining layers of natural elements such as berries, greenery, garland, pine cones, twigs, and curly willow, alongside shiny, sparkly elements brought in through ornaments, beads and glitter.

Acornacopia

Look at a few closeups of our trees and you’ll see we incorporated everything from stuffed animals and baskets to large ornaments and household decorative items. We love unconventional and different with a touch of tradition. Remember, every tree needs a statement piece, so make sure you have one that speaks loudly. At Acornacopia we love to think outside the box — for instance this year we created a custom tornado tree. Now that sparks curiosity and conversation doesn’t it!

This month I want to brag about the talent of a few local designers and their genius in creating custom Christmas trees and décor for the season. These designers have always caught my eye and never disappoint with trees that are whimsical, funky and fun.

Like all things design, I truly believe that each tree should do several things: First it should make a statement. Your tree should not only make a bold first impression, but what does it say about you, your personality and style? Does it give you the feels? What is the ambiance when guests, family and friends gather around the tree? Most importantly, does it reflect the story you want it to tell? It should have a story and it should be your story.

One of my personal trees is decked out in traditional red and gold. These colors take me back to childhood and bring me happy memories. To me, these traditional colors, combined with soft, warm twinkling lights, make me and my guests feel warm, cozy and calm. These colors create a balance of tradition, style and boldness that I love gazing at all season long, and lastly, they speak the story of my style with a combination of different ornaments, large ribbons and bold florals.

I had the privilege of speaking with a few accomplished local designers and asked them what sets their own style apart, plus a few key tips for your own decorating. However you celebrate the Christmas season, I always hope the season brings you peace, hope, love and joy.

Creatively yours,

Dawn

McCoy’s Consign & Design

More is more and less is a bore when it comes to decorating a tree for the holidays. Nothing is off limits. Filling a tree with a great abundance of items is a favorite of ours. One tip would be to fill in your tree with floral stems or other faux winter branches to give the tree a more full and noticeable presence. (It’s never enough!) Another tip: Set a foundation for a color scheme. Make certain colors pop and your tree will grow to become the center of your holiday design.
